A two-month voyage through Australia is being halted days after the death of an elderly woman who was abandoned by the vessel on a remote island.

The elderly woman had been trekking on Lizard Island with shipmates from the vessel, but parted ways from the group for a break. The ship left without her and went back after some time after the crew became aware the woman was unaccounted for.

A large-scale search operation discovered her body the subsequent day.

Investigative bodies are investigating the tragedy, in coordination with investigators and the official investigator.

The CEO of the shipping company stated that travelers and staff on the Coral Adventurer were told that the continuation of the cruise had been terminated due to the "tragic passing and previous technical problems".

In a statement, he mentioned that guests would be issued a total repayment, and said the company was working "to coordinate the return journeys of the individuals via chartered flights".

Officials also published an updated statement, and said they had "delivered a order to the Commander" prohibiting any new passengers from boarding the ship.

The representative said that they would attend the ship in Cairns upon its return.

Timeline of Incidents

The liner initially left the Australian port on the 24th of October, and was only 48 hours into the journey at the point of the senior passenger's demise. The tropical location was the first stop on the journey.

Guests on board - who generally pay tens of thousands of currency to participate in the voyage - were taken there for a daily excursion with the possibility of trekking or snorkelling.

Relatives Statement

The daughter of the deceased woman said that her loved ones was "shocked and grieved that the vessel left Lizard Island after an organised excursion without my parent".

Via her announcement, she characterized her mum as an "energetic octogenarian" who was a member of a hiking group.

"From the little information we have been provided, it looks that there was a lapse of responsibility and basic judgment," she mentioned.

She added that she wished the inquiry would be able to identify what "the company should have undertaken that might have protected Her life".

"We understand from the police that it was a very hot day, and mother took sick on the mountain ascent," she explained.

"She was asked her to return, without accompaniment. Then the ship left, reportedly without conducting a roll call.

"During some point in that process, or shortly after, mum passed away, by herself."

Company Position

Through an announcement, the Chief Executive affirmed that the operator was "working closely with authorities to support their investigation".

He mentioned that the firm was "deeply sorry that this has happened" and had provided its total backing to the relatives.

The vessel serves up to one hundred twenty passengers with nearly fifty personnel, according to company information. It was specifically designed to access isolated locations of the nation's shoreline and is equipped with "auxiliary vessels" - compact vessels used to ferry individuals on land visits.

Events of this nature are infrequent, and passenger vessels have procedures to document which travelers are embarking or leaving, according to industry experts.

"Going ashore secretly or [back] on the ship simply isn't an possibility," one expert remarked.

Shipping companies take these methods with great importance and have "advanced technology in place to prevent such events from happening," the authority added.

"This seems to be most likely a surprising - and sad - single occurrence."
