Trump’s most recent warning to impose an further complete levy on Chinese goods has been described as a “typical example” of United States’ contradictory behavior, according to the Chinese government.

A representative of the ministry additionally remarked that the nation could enact its own undisclosed “retaliatory steps” if the US President executes his pledge, emphasizing that the country was “not afraid” of a possible trade war.

This past Friday, the former president retaliated at the Chinese government’s action to reinforce its rules for foreign shipments of rare earths, alleging China of “becoming very hostile” and attempting to hold the world “hostage”.

Furthermore, he vowed to withdraw from a scheduled summit with China’s President Xi Jinping, which was arranged for a meeting in the Republic of Korea in the coming weeks.

Trump’s comments on that day unsettled stock exchanges, with the benchmark US stock index dropping over two and a half percent, marking its steepest fall since earlier this year.

The president’s words renewed concerns of a commercial dispute between the US and China.

This past spring, the respective governments had agreed to eliminate high import duties on each other’s goods, which had raised the prospect of trade halting between the two countries.

This left, US tariffs on products from China incurring an additional thirty percent tariff compared with the start of the year, while US goods entering the Chinese market face a import levy.

Beijing’s recent statements – issued by the relevant government department in the format of formal replies to media inquiries – echoed language from the zenith of the latest commercial tensions.

Officials denounced US export restrictions on electronic components while supporting Beijing’s overseas sale regulations on key elements as “routine measures” to safeguard national security and that of all nations.

Their representative stated that for “a long time”, the America had “broadened the definition” of state security, exploited overseas sale restrictions and “implemented” unfair treatments against Beijing.

“Resorting to tariff threats is not the right way to deal with Beijing,” the official said.

“The nation’s view” on a trade conflict has remained unchanging: we wish to avoid one, but we are fearless of one.”

Recently, China announced it was reinforcing overseas sale regulations on key elements and other materials essential to cutting-edge industry.

This was seen as a key move, as the country handles about ninety percent of the planet’s critical minerals, which are utilized in goods such as solar panels and smartphones.

The recent comments from Washington and Beijing are being viewed by some as a means of bolstering negotiating stances prior to upcoming negotiations.
